AN EVALUATION OF MEDIA INFLUENCE ON TOXIC FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES AND THEIR ROLE IN MARITAL DISSOLUTION: A STUDY OF ABUJA DIGITAL MEDIA
Background of the Study
Media, particularly digital platforms such as social media, blogs, and online forums, have become influential spaces for shaping public opinion and societal values. In recent years, digital media has served as a vehicle for the propagation of feminist ideologies, including toxic feminism. Toxic feminism, characterized by radical views on gender relations, often promotes women’s independence and autonomy, sometimes rejecting traditional family structures and marital expectations. These digital spaces have provided platforms for open discussions about infidelity, marriage, and family dynamics, which can impact perceptions of marital fidelity and the rise of marital dissolution.
Abuja, being the political and administrative capital of Nigeria, is home to a diverse, educated population with access to digital media and feminist discourses. This study will evaluate the role of digital media in shaping toxic feminist perspectives and how these perspectives contribute to marital dissolution trends in Abuja. The research will assess how media representations of feminist ideologies influence public perceptions of marriage and infidelity, potentially leading to shifts in attitudes toward marital commitment and dissolution.
Statement of the Problem
While digital media has been credited with increasing the visibility of feminist movements, the role of media in propagating toxic feminist perspectives and their influence on marital dissolution has not been sufficiently explored. This study will examine the impact of digital media in Abuja on the perception of marital fidelity, infidelity, and the rising trend of marital dissolution, considering the influence of toxic feminist ideologies.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate how digital media in Abuja propagates toxic feminist perspectives on marriage and marital fidelity.
To assess the influence of these perspectives on public perceptions of marital dissolution.
To explore the role of digital media in shaping societal views on infidelity and family structures in Abuja.
Research Questions
How does digital media in Abuja promote toxic feminist perspectives on marriage and marital fidelity?
What impact do these media representations have on public perceptions of marital dissolution?
How do digital media platforms in Abuja influence attitudes toward infidelity and family dynamics?
Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it examines the powerful role of digital media in shaping perceptions of marriage, fidelity, and family structures, particularly in Abuja. By evaluating the influence of toxic feminist perspectives in the digital space, the research will contribute to understanding how online media affects societal attitudes toward marital dissolution. The findings will be useful for media practitioners, policymakers, and social researchers interested in the impact of digital media on family life and relationships.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
This study will focus on digital media platforms in Abuja, particularly those that propagate feminist ideologies, and their influence on marital dissolution. The research will be limited to online discussions and will not explore other forms of media, such as print or television. The study will focus on perceptions within the urban context of Abuja and will not address rural or non-digital communities.
